Best Breakfast in the Smokies: Our Favorite Spots

Collage of top breakfast spots in the Smoky Mountains featuring Applewood Farmhouse Grill in Sevierville with apple fritters, country breakfast platter, and restaurant exterior.

One of the best parts of vacation is starting the day with a great breakfast. Whether you're heading to Dollywood, exploring Gatlinburg, or just enjoying a slower morning, there are a few breakfast spots we recommend again and again to guests staying at Wildflower. These are a mix of local favorites, iconic Smoky Mountain classics, and solid go-to choices depending on what kind of morning you're having.

If You Want the Classic Smoky Mountain Breakfast Experience: Pancake Pantry

If it's your first time visiting or you want the full Gatlinburg breakfast tradition, Pancake Pantry is a classic for a reason. It opened in 1960 and has been a Gatlinburg breakfast staple ever since. It's where we take our own friends when they visit for the first time. They offer 24 varieties of pancakes, plus waffles, omelets, and all the Southern breakfast staples. Expect hearty food, a true "we're on vacation" atmosphere, and almost certainly a line out the door. It's worth it.

One heads-up: Pancake Pantry doesn't have on-site parking, so plan a few extra minutes to find a spot. They are cash only, so hit an ATM before you head over. Most importantly, be prepared to stand in line if they are busy. Don’t worry! The line moves quickly!

Best for: First-time visitors, pancake lovers, making a full Gatlinburg morning of it

If You Want Biscuits, Apple Butter & a Sevierville Favorite: Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant

Guests love the Apple Barn area, and Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant is one of the most beloved breakfast stops in Sevierville. They've been a Smoky Mountains tradition for over 35 years, and the moment you sit down you'll understand why. Every meal starts with warm, complimentary apple fritters and their signature apple julep. They really are as good as everyone says.

This is a great pick if you want a memorable breakfast destination without fighting Parkway traffic, and if you're staying at Wildflower, you can skip most of it to get there.

Best for: Families, Southern breakfast lovers, a fun Sevierville morning

If You Want a Great Nearby Breakfast That's Easy and Dependable: Five Oaks Farm Kitchen

Five Oaks is right on the Sevierville Parkway and one of our go-to recommendations when guests want something excellent without turning breakfast into a big production. The menu has something for everyone — omelets, eggs benedict, signature cinnamon rolls (highly recommend if you like a good cinnamon roll with lots of icing!), and griddle cakes with generous portions and a warm, farm-style atmosphere. It can get busy, but they have an app called "The List" that lets you add yourself to the waitlist before you even leave the property Smoky Mountains, which is a nice perk on a busy trip day.

Best for: Convenient mornings, hungry families, getting your day started without the fuss

If You Want a Full Sit-Down Smoky Mountain Institution: The Old Mill Restaurant

You'll see us recommend The Old Mill and its sister restaurant, Pottery House Café, regularly, and for good reason. It’s one of our favorites. The original Old Mill was built in 1830 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it one of the most historic places you can eat in the Smokies. At breakfast, every entrée comes with complimentary orange juice and warm banana nut muffins served with sourwood honey and local preserves. If breakfast itself is part of the day's adventure, this is a great place to slow down and enjoy it.

Note that they don't take reservations, so expect a possible wait — especially on weekends. The shops right next door make the wait pretty easy to pass. You can also explore the river (hint - there’s a little walkway next to the General Store to go down to the river and get a better view of the actual Mill).

Best for: Vacation traditions, leisurely breakfasts, a genuine Pigeon Forge experience

Our Honest Advice

If you only do one breakfast in Gatlinburg, most guests choose Pancake Pantry.

If you want the easiest option that’s still delicious near Wildflower, Five Oaks is a smart move thanks to their waitlist app.

If you want a memorable Sevierville morning, Applewood is hard to beat.

If breakfast itself is part of the attraction, Old Mill is a classic everyone should try.
