Explore the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community
What is the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Loop?
One of our favorite ways to spend a day is with a leisurely drive through the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community in Gatlinburg. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community is a loop that winds through the hills to the shops of dozens of artisans and craftsmen. Although there are vendors who import things from other places, there are many local artisans to be found in the Community. Just look for the logo above, generally displayed on the business sign or in a front window to identify those that are local makers whose work is available for purchase.
How to Get There from Sevierville
Our Sevierville properties have easy access to the back entrance to the Community via Pittman Center Rd and Birds Creek Rd, so there’s no need to fight all the traffic going into Gatlinburg from Pigeon Forge on a busy day. You can also check out the Brown Buffalo Farm on the way there! It’s a small stop off the road and the buffalo are always roaming.
What You’ll Find Along the Loop
As you travel through the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community, you can find a wide variety of handmade wares for purchase right from the makers. Whether you’re interested in pottery, photography, glassworks, candles, a new leather belt, or handmade furniture - there’s something for you in the Arts and Crafts Community. Some of our favorite shops include Alewine Pottery, Misty Mountain Soap Co., and Olga’s Yodel Cinnamon Rolls. We encourage you to take a drive through the Loop and explore everything it has to offer, then come back and let us know what your favorites were at the bottom of this page.
Tips for Visiting the Arts & Crafts community
Some shops move from time to time, so be sure to pick up one of the brochures with a map at the first place you stop so you can find your favorites! You can plan ahead by checking out this Community Member’s List and discovering the wide variety of artisans in the area. We’ll talk in more detail about each of our favorite shops over the next several posts.
